FRONTIER RESORT CABINS

Here in California, we feel like we are on the frontier. We’re a small resort community at the top of the San Bernardino Mountains. We have eight stop lights in the entire valley, which is about a twenty minute drive. Here are some of our historic pictures-

The old Dam and the Dam Keeper's House in the background.

Winter sports have always been popular in Big Bear. This dog sled team is out on Baldwin Lake.

Clarkes Grade, the first road into Big Bear crested Bear Mountain and came into the Valley through Millcreek Road. It was composed of a series of challenging hairpin turns.

Baldwin Lake was known as a duck hunter's paradise in the 1940's.

In 1934, Big Bear High School was in the top of Beard's Department Store.

Knight's Camp was one of the first lodges in Big Bear. This pictures of their "modern cabins" was taken in 1924.

Beard's Department Store- Big Bear Lake's first department store, with the high school upstairs. Later converted to McNeal's Trading Post.
